LTI integration: course context matters as much as sign-in.
Integrate a learning tool into an existing learning platform. Preserve course context, roles and the agreed return of results.
Read the German originalThe tool becomes part of a course
LTI connects learning platforms to external tools. Alongside launch, 1EdTech describes services for content selection and the return of results. Which services are needed depends on the learning process. A working login is therefore not a complete integration.
Describe a specific activity in a test course. Who launches the tool, which role is required and what result should appear in the learning platform afterwards?
Map course, role and activity unambiguously
The same person may be a learner in one course and an instructor in another. The integration must use the relevant context. Results also need an unambiguous link to the activity and course so they do not create incorrect learning records.
Test a course change and repeated result submission. A second technical attempt must not create an additional business event. Missing permissions should be explained clearly without exposing information from other courses.
Introduce only the services you need
A pilot starts with one LMS, one tool and one course. Optional services are added and tested individually. The agreed platform version and its settings form part of the handover.
Other education standards address other tasks; they do not come with the word LTI. The connection needs maintenance when keys rotate and platforms are updated. This keeps the learning process understandable after the first successful demonstration.
What does this look like in your work?
